No. An outside billing service may or may not be what's right for your practice. However, they are NOT expensive. There are many benefits to using a billing center which include but are not limited to:
* Space in medical office. The cost of having added space to accommodate the additional staff is not needed.
* Physician does not have to pay the high salary and benefits of a biller.
* Cost of long distance calls to the insurance company is eliminated.
* No worries when billing staff is on vacation.
* There is also a one-time expense to the physician of purchasing medical billing software which could range from $2,000 - $25,000 or more, plus annual maintenance fees.

Not all services require a client to purchase of software package. That is dependent on the services being requested and the overall goal of the client.
